GSU Mindful Living Lab
Welcome to the Mindful Living Lab!
Our research focuses on interventions to improve coping with stress, reduce health risk behaviors, and enhance quality of life in underserved populations. Our work strives to understand health disparities and promote health equity for people from low-income backgrounds, racial/ethnic minoritized populations, and those with mental health conditions.
We are interested in how mindfulness might enhance emotion regulation and promote healthier behavior in diverse populations. For example, we study how practicing mindfulness might help people from diverse backgrounds quit smoking. We are also developing and evaluating mobile health strategies (e.g., text messaging, apps) to help people engage in healthier behavior.
Mindfulness is "paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally" (Jon Kabat-Zinn). Mindfulness involves slowing down to focus on what's happening right here, right now.
